Lenten/ Easter Basket Offerings 2016!

"The Lenten season offers us once again an opportunity to reflect upon the very heart of Christian life: charity. This is a favorable time to renew our journey of faith, both as individuals and as a community, with the help of the word of God and the sacraments.

This journey is one marked by prayer and sharing, silence and fasting, in anticipation of the joy of Easter."

(Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI)

Please open your hearts and consider how you can offer your God-given gifts and talents to help others this Lent by assisting in one or more of the following areas:

Medical Equipment Sponsorship- The highlighted Lenten Offering for 2016 is for the underprivileged families who reside in the Congo. Fr. Jean Ikanga is now doing his residency at Emory University School of Medicine in the department of Rehabilitation. He will be finishing with his training in the USA next year and returning to the Congo, to help treat the sick. Many people there have serious illnesses, but because they live in a war torn country, have never had a chance to see a nurse or a doctor. They are truly the poor, the forgotten and the deprived. The two most urgently needed pieces of equipment are: Microscopes at $1,889 each and Ultrasound Machines, for a fetus, at $5,200 each. To assist helping the poor souls who are very ill and suffering, please keep them in prayer, and consider offering a monetary donation so that the necessary medical equipment can be purchased. Please make your check payable to Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church and indicate Medical Equipment Sponsorship on the subject line of your check. Please place your Lenten Offering Envelope in the collection basket or drop it off in the Parish Office by March 27.

St. Cyril Families in Need: Once again this year, members will show their care and love for our own parish families here at St. Cyril’s. These very special families are in great need for your prayers and temporary help through monetary donations. Your finan-cial assistance will help to alleviate an already deeply stressful crisis of a severe medical issue or the loss of a job. These unex-pected problems can cause a family to fall into deep financial problems. "The kindly man will be blessed, for he gives of his suste-nance to the poor." (Prov 22:9) Please consider giving a monetary donation to help get a family back on their feet as they strug-gle to supply their basic needs. Please make your check payable to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church and indicate St. Cyril Family in Need on the subject line of your check. Please place your Lenten Offering Envelope in the collection basket or drop it off in the Parish Office by March 27.

Wee Care provides infant clothing, blankets, diapers and more to over 600 families a year! When an emergency arises, babies are lovingly helped in all counties. "It is God who gives life. Let us respect and love human life…" (Pope Frances) Every hospital has a social worker that refers women in need to Wee Care. The program runs completely through generous dona-tions. Please consider giving a monetary donation to give a baby a good start in life. Please make your check payable to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church and indicate Pro-Life- Wee Care on the subject line of your check. Please place your Lenten Offering Enve-lope in the collection basket or drop it off in the Parish Office by March 27.

Food Pantry Collection- "Lord, when did we see you hungry…" (Mt 25:37) In order to help to support our less fortunate brothers and sisters at Sacred Heart Parish in Imlay City we will be collecting: Non-Perishable Food Items- Canned Goods, Rice, Beans, Cereal and Pasta. Please place your donations in the appropriate box located in the coatroom. All donations should be placed in the box by March 24.

Coat Collection Offering: Winter coats are desperately needed by men, women and children who live in poverty in our surround-ing communities. "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." (Heb 10:24) Please challenge yourself to go through your closet and take one coat out to donate to the poor! These coats will be given to our underprivileged neighbors, at both Crossroads and in Imlay City, to help them to keep warm during the extremely cold winter months. Please place your coat in the appropriate box in the coat room off the vestibule.

Residence for Homeless- Amelia Agnes Transitional Home for homeless mothers and children is our community neighbor lo-cated just one mile north of our parish. The group provides housing and support services to battered and homeless families while assisting moms to become self-sufficient. "It is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost." (Mt 18:14) Mary’s Mantle is a safe haven for expectant mothers. It is the only Catholic residence for pregnant moms in the Detroit area. Since the home opened they have helped 44 mothers and babies! Please consider offering a gift to help a mother, and her new baby or with children, so that they have a place to live temporarily. Please make your check payable to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church and indicate Residence for Homeless on the subject line of your check. Easter Basket Tags for Prison Outreach-"For I know well the plans I have in mind for your, says the Lord… plans to give you a future full of hope." (Jer 29:11) Over twenty-four thousand inmates go through the Macomb County Jail every year. At any given day there are 1,450 men and women in jail. When an inmate leaves he/she has nothing but the shirt they are wearing and they must begin to get integrated back into society. The inmates need Bibles, stamps, reading glasses and paper while they are in jail. When they are released they often need a temporary residence, bus tickets, food cards and clothing. Your monetary donation will help these unfortunate souls feel they are worthy of love and give them hope as they begin their walk toward healing and wholeness. Please make your check payable to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church and indicate Prison Outreach on the subject line of your check. Please place your Lenten Offering Envelope in the collection basket drop it off in the Parish Office by March 27.

There are also Easter Basket Tags for much needed Gift Cards for Gas and Food for Families in Need. Please put your Egg Tag along with your Gift Card in a Plain Envelope and place it in the collection basket or drop it off in the Parish Office by March 27.
